After 23 years of running my own business and 29 years hands on experience I finally opened my MOT station in 2011, a long awaited dream now a reality.
I have been in the motor trade industry since 1989, and grew up in a family of engineers; my Father has been in the trade since 1960. Combined we have over 70 combined years of experience in our field.
Raised by a family of engineers it was only natural that I would become an engineer myself! They say it's in blood. Initially started out running 3 large workshops owned by the family specialising in mechanical repairs, bodywork and MOT's.
Although working in the family business offered a world of challenges, I decided to move on and see how other garages faired. I worked for a 'Rover Group' dealership as a technician on Rover's, MG's and Land Rover cars.
Always on the lookout for more challenging environments, I then moved on and joined the AA (Automobile Association) which, by the way, is one of the largest motoring organisations in Europe. My initial training at the AA college, being the best privately owned college in UK, offered me the chance to perfect my skills and knowledge in the field of engineering and electronic diagnosis. I was achieving a staggering 95% repair rate on the side of the road.
My experiences with the AA offered me top class training similar to that of the best skilled engineer in the car manufacturing industry and also, the ability to work in a very demanding environment. Still today I attend all the latest seminars and training courses to stay on top of the game, understanding and gaining knowledge in this ever changing industry.
I have also worked on aviation, marine and motorcycle engines. I have built and serviced Rolls Royce engines for Cessna single engine light aircraft, Penta Volvo, Honda and Mercruiser marine engines and ALL makes of motorcycles.
In 1996, I finally decided to open up my own garage, here in Bracknell, UK. The business has been very successful and had constantly expanded to 3 small workshops with 4 ramps and bays. I eventually outgrew the small units; I decided to change to newer and bigger premises. I now have an MOT station testing Classes I, II, III, IV & VII (Mopeds, Motorcycles, Trikes, Cars and Vans) I have an in house machining & fabrication station, where I'm skilled in lathe work, MIG welding in steel and aluminium & sheet metal work.Qualifications and skills
